Sumo is said to have a history as old as—or even older than—Japan itself. At the Asakusa Sumo Club, you can immerse yourself in this rich tradition while enjoying an authentic and entertaining cultural experience in an intimate setting.
At the center of the venue sits a real sumo ring (dohyo), creating a truly immersive atmosphere. The experience begins with a demonstration of morning training by former professional sumo wrestlers, along with easy-to-understand explanations of basic rules, techniques, and traditions. This is followed by an exciting best-of-three sumo match performed by retired wrestlers.

The show opens with a traditional Japanese dance performed by a beautifully dressed geisha, setting an elegant and cultural tone for the event. With live commentary in both English and Japanese, the experience is enjoyable and accessible for guests of all ages.

For those feeling adventurous, there is also an opportunity to step into the ring and challenge a sumo wrestler (limited participants per show; selection by lottery if there are many applicants). This hands-on experience makes the event even more memorable.
During the show, guests can enjoy an all-you-can-eat meal featuring chanko nabe (a traditional sumo hot pot) along with a variety of Japanese dishes. One complimentary drink is included, with additional beverages available for purchase.
After the show, you’ll have the chance to take commemorative photos with the sumo wrestlers and geisha. A printed photo and souvenir gift set are included, making for a perfect keepsake of your visit.
