One of Tokyo’s biggest and most historic fireworks events, the Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival 2025! If you're visiting Japan in July, this is an experience you shouldn't miss.

Date: Saturday, July 26, 2025
Time: 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Location: Sumida River, Tokyo
Rain Policy: Light rain → Held as planned / Heavy rain → CanceledOfficial announcement by 8:00 AM on the day via the official website or X (Twitter)
🎇 What to Expect
Over 20,000 fireworks will light up the Tokyo night sky.
Two launch sites:
Site 1: Near Sakurabashi Bridge (upstream)
Site 2: Near Komagatabashi Bridge (downstream)
Includes a fireworks competition featuring Japan’s top pyrotechnic artists.
🎟 Reserved Seating (Optional)
Foreign visitors can apply for reserved seating through the Citizen Sponsor Program.
Online applications: Opened May 11, 2025 (first-come, first-served)
By mail (Japan only): Closed May 20, 2025
Sponsorship includes access to a special viewing area.
🚢 Watching by Boat?
Private boats on the river must display an official “Viewing Flag” to anchor near the festival area.
Flag Sales Period: June 23 – July 4, 2025
No flag = No access. Violators may be asked to leave.
📌 Tips for Visitors
Arrive early: Expect large crowds. Good public spots fill quickly.
Bring a picnic: Many locals enjoy dinner while waiting for the show.
Use public transport: Nearby stations will be very crowded—plan accordingly.
