Asakusa Mugitoro Main Restaurant – Over 90 Years of Celebrated Tororo Kaiseki
Just steps from Asakusa's iconic Kaminarimon Gate and along the banks of the Sumida
River, Asakusa Mugitoro Main Restaurant has been delighting diners since its founding in
1929. Specializing exclusively in tororo (grated yam), this long-standing establishment is
cherished by both locals and visitors from around the world. Its elegant, traditional setting
and nourishing, flavorful dishes embody the very spirit of Asakusa.
Tradition and Craftsmanship
Mugitoro is a simple yet deeply satisfying Japanese dish: grated yam poured over barley
rice. At Asakusa Mugitoro, only premium domestic yamato-imo is used, carefully grated and
blended with a secret dashi broth to create a silky, aromatic tororo. The result is a natural
sweetness and umami that gently fill the palate.
The kaiseki courses combine this signature tororo with seasonal ingredients—fresh fish,
vegetables, simmered, grilled, and fried dishes—arranged beautifully like works of art. The
highlight is the final course: barley rice with a generous serving of tororo, a moment of pure
indulgence unique to this restaurant.
The Famous Sky Tororo Buffet
One of the most popular experiences here is the Sky Tororo Buffet, held on the rooftop
floor. With panoramic views of the Sumida River and Tokyo Skytree, guests can enjoy an 80-
minute all-you-can-eat feast. A wide variety of Japanese and Western dishes are served,
and of course, unlimited servings of their renowned tororo. Combined with sightseeing in
Asakusa, it promises a truly memorable day.
Perfect for Every Occasion
From casual lunches to special celebrations, Asakusa Mugitoro can accommodate a variety
of needs. The restaurant offers serene table seating, tatami rooms, private rooms for two or
more guests, and even a spacious banquet hall for up to 45 people. Whether for family
gatherings, memorial services, or group tours, the restaurants hospitality ensures a warm and memorable experience.
The location is another key draw—just a few minutes walk from Asakusa Station and right
near Kaminarimon and Nakamise Street, making it a convenient stop during sightseeing.
